On the 30th of June 2017 there were around 3.8 million Australians who were aged 65 years or over. With Australia’s growing older population, it is increasingly important to understand the characteristics of older Australians who are receiving aged care services and how they use these services.

The following dashboard presents key figures from the Department of Health’s Aged care data snapshot and provides an insight into who in Australia is using aged care services, how people enter the aged care system, the characteristics of people using aged care and how much the Commonwealth Government spends on different types of aged care services.

An interactive dashboard shows data about usage rates, assessments, people using aged care, and government spending. The data are available in excel format on GEN. The excel workbook can be found by going to the resources section of GEN, selecting access data and then selecting the item called Aged care data snapshot—2017.

To download and print, click on the 'Download' button at the bottom right of the dashboard. Select 'pdf' and set the paper size to A4 and the scaling to 60%.
